Donaire retains WBC and WBO bantamweight titles

NEW YORK (AP)—Nonito Donaire retained the WBC and WBO bantamweight titles, unanimously outpointing Omar Narvaez on Saturday night at the Theater at Madison Square Garden.
Donaire improved to 27-1, extending his nine-year winning streak to 26 fights, with winning scores of 120-108 from the judges. He failed to record a knockout for the 10th time in his last 11 fights in a performance that had most of the 4,425 fans booing the lack of action.
Narvaez (35-1-2) lost for the first time in his 11-year professional career.

Nonito Donaire Jr. vs Omar Narvaez

Boxing fans will be treated to Nonito Donaire Jr. vs Omar Narvaez live stream via HBO Boxing on October 22 (10:00 PM EDT) at Madison Square Garden, New York City.

Nonito Donaire Jr., the reigning WBO and WBC bantamweight champion, faces undefeated Omar Narvaez in one of the most exciting boxing match other than the Pacquiao vs Marquez bout on November 12, 2011 . The 28-year old Donaire (26-1, 18 knockouts) hopes to arrange a match against WBO super bantamweight champion Jorge Arce after this match with the Argentinian Narvaez.

Omar Andres Narvaez (35-0-2, 19 KOs) of Cordoba, Argentina is the current WBO super flyweight champion and for the first time in his career will be fighting in North America. The 36-year old Narvaez is 5-3 in height shorter by four inches against the “The Filipino Flash”. The Argentinian is not a power puncher and has gone the distance in his last five bouts. The Narvaez vs Donaire Jr. live stream will be available on HBO’s Boxing After Dark series.

Donaire will be fighting his second match this year after knocking out Fernando Montiel in the second round of their February bout. The Filipino boxing champion is supposedly groomed by Top Rank to fight Toshiaki Nishioka after this match with Narvaez. However, Bob Arum, Top Rank’s head honcho, wants both Donaire and Arce mixed it up in 2012
